Before then, the station will have two special events.
The Atomic Hit Parade
Planned before I knew the station would have to close, there will be a special week-long feature called The Atomic Hit Parade. Meant to celebrate the seventh anniversary of when KoHoSo Radio 66 first went online on August 8, 2015, The Atomic Hit Parade is a series of five-song sets that will cover the 50 favorite tunes of Miss KoKo, Jordan of The House of Googie, and me from the era of music played on the station. These sets will begin at 8:00 a.m. PDT/11:00 a.m. EDT on Monday, August 8th and run at the top of the hour for six hours straight every day through Friday, August 12th. Each day’s sets will also repeat beginning at 8 p.m. Pacific, 11 p.m. Eastern.
Cruisin’ with KoHoSo
A final edition of Cruisin’ with KoHoSo will run one time only on Wednesday, August 17th at 7:00 p.m. PDT, 10:00 p.m. EDT. At its conclusion, the stream will go silent.
Why is the station closing?
KoHoSo Radio 66 is a victim of its own success. So many people are listening and doing so for multiple hours that I should now be paying over $1,330 per month to cover streaming and music licensing fees. I cannot come close to affording that even with the generous donations I have received through Patreon and via mail.
When is the station closing?
At approximately 8:00 p.m. PDT/11:00 p.m. EDT on August 17, 2022. The exact time will depend on whether or not the final edition of Cruisin’ with KoHoSo runs beyond its usual one hour length (again, the start time is 7:00 p.m. PDT/10:00 p.m. EDT).
Who is responsible for the station closing?
The "record companies" and music publishers that refused to offer a carve-out for non-commercial streamers such as me.
What will you do next?
The first thing I will do after a bit of a mental break is return to posting more regularly on my retro/vintage/Americana blog, KoHoSo.us. After that, I’m not certain if I will do anything else that would involve audio or video entertainment. I’ve had a few ideas pop into my head over the past few years but I always sat them aside as I was so happy running KoHoSo Radio 66. One thing I do know is that, while I would certainly have to put whatever I might do in the future through a major internet company, the content won’t have copyrighted material from anybody else. It will be mine and mine alone so I never have anybody squeeze me out of what I love doing for others online ever again.
If I do embark on another project, you will see it announced at KoHoSo.us.
As for anything else I have to say about this, I know it will be tough for the east coasters and especially anybody in Europe but I hope you’ll tune in for the final edition of Cruisin’ with KoHoSo so you can hear me from the heart.
With love to you all,
KoHoSo
