The System Will Be Down

I have just been informed by the KoHoSo Radio 66 server host, Abovecast, that the station’s main stream will experience anywhere from 30 minutes to two hours of downtime. Here is the schedule for when the downtime will begin.

  • U.S. Eastern Daylight Time: Saturday, April 21st at 1:00 a.m.
  • U.S. Pacific Daylight Time: Friday, April 20th at 10:00 p.m.
  • UTC (Coordinated Universal Time): Saturday, April 21st at 0500

During the downtime, KoHoSo Radio 66 will run off the backup server hosted directly by its streaming service, Live365. That server does not have our mixing software. Thus, the station will sound like a randomized playlist on your phone or computer until the main server is rebooted.

Abovecast must perform this maintenance so it can expand its capacity to serve more customers. That is certainly cool with me as Abovecast has been a fantastic service and I hope they will continue to grow, succeed, and be our virtual home for many years to come.

Their goal is to have the downtime last for only 30 minutes. However, being wise in expecting the unexpected, Abovecast is calling for two hours just in case something takes more time to install.

Please excuse us during this time when KoHoSo Radio 66 will not be sounding its best.

Since I’m in here…in other news…

Well, there really isn’t much news. It has been a terribly busy time for me at my real job which limits my free time at home to do anything big with the station. I have been able to add small bits of new music here and there through the past few weeks but nothing major since we announced the big expansion of James Brown songs on Twitter and Facebook (more on the latter in a moment). This busy time has also prevented me from getting a Cruisin’ with KoHoSo special ready. I am hoping this wacky time in my life will ease up once we get into May.

Another project on the list is it’s definitely time to freshen up the jingles and ID’s again…and, of course, there’s still getting the station "public" on Roku. I have been able to try a few new things in regard to pushing our cover art out through the Live365 players but nothing has worked. I have been communicating with their staff regarding this issue. While not resolved, at least I can report their attitude toward wanting to find time to resolve this problem is quite encouraging.

Finally for now…Facebook…yes, I’ve heard from a few of you about this subject. I almost made a decision and post about it a couple of weeks ago but decided to hold off and continue to mull it over as more news regarding that platform emerges. For now, all I will say is those of you concerned about it should follow the wise advice of Jiminy Cricket and just let your conscience be your guide. ;^)
